Alumni Success Stories

As a hardworking mom in Japan, Mieko M. ran her own business with an ambition to expand to the global market. After moving to the United States, she decided to pursue an associate’s degree at UoPeople. Because UoPeople offers a flexible online schedule she was able to run her business, and take care of her son – all while earning her associate’s degree in Business Administration. Mieko then leveraged the valuable partnerships UoPeople has with top universities. She transferred to our then partner, the University of California at Berkeley where she graduated with a 4.0 GPA!

Her story doesn’t end there – Mieko is currently pursuing her master’s degree at MIT. In 2020, she founded a shop called, ‘Crane and Turtle’ in Boston, to introduce sustainable and practical Japan-made household items to Americans. Mieko is a wonderful example of what you can accomplish with hard work and ambition, and the support of UoPeople!

For the first six years of his life Jermiko T. could not speak. He was shy and uncomfortable in most situations. However, his dream was to study Business Administration but he held back because of the expensive cost of higher education. One day, Jermiko discovered UoPeople and was impressed with the affordability, quality and the support provided. He made the decision to pursue his degree at UoPeople and was soon accepted.

Jermiko graduated from UoPeople in 2019 with an AS in Business Administration, and enjoyed his experience so much he returned to continue his educational journey. Jermiko graduated again in 2020 with a BS in Business Administration.

What is Jermiko up to now? He has written and published 7 books, and is a three-time award winning children’s author. He’s planning to return yet again to pursue his MBA.

By the age of 13, Sarah M. and her family were homeless.  She eventually dropped out of high school and had two children. Life was extremely difficult for her. Sarah earned an undergraduate degree at another online university, but knew she wanted an advanced degree. Sarah then made a decision that would forever change her life.

She completed her application and was accepted to University of the People! Sarah loved learning about other cultures and gaining the specialized skills that employers were looking for. She completed her MBA and quickly found a job at Amazon.

Sarah loves her job at Amazon where she can fully utilize her skillset to make a change in the world. She now owns her own home and has her own car. Life has completely changed for Sarah who had to overcome so much.

Before UoPeople, Juhi M. studied in a traditional Indian school environment where she felt confined by the expectations to become a doctor or engineer. She felt like she was lacking the support from teachers that she needed to succeed.

This ultimately led Juhi to decide to become the kind of teacher she had always wished for – passionate and open-minded. As a new teacher she felt under-equipped to handle student needs and realized she needed specialized skills. However, Juhi needed an affordable flexible option.

Juhi juggled her studies while being employed as a full-time teacher. She has successfully earned her M.Ed. and gained the skills she needed.  In the fall of 2022, she plans to begin her Ph.D. in Curriculum Studies at DePaul University, Chicago.

As you can see, our graduates are accomplishing great things! UoPeople is proud of all of our current students and graduates. We are deeply humbled to provide a quality, affordable education for all.

Now, it’s your turn! Take the next step towards the future of your dreams.
