UoPeople Receives $240,000 Grant from Oak Foundation for Ukrainian Scholarships
Following a request by the Ukrainian Ministry of Education, UoPeople has opened all of its courses to Ukrainian students
Pasadena, CA. July 5, 2022 – University of the People (UoPeople), the world’s first tuition-free, non-profit, accredited, American online university, has received a $240,000 grant from the Oak Foundation to support the university’s Ukrainian scholarship initiative.
Following a request by the Ukrainian Ministry of Education, UoPeople has opened all of its courses to Ukrainian students whose universities have closed due to the Russian invasion to enable them to continue their studies uninterrupted online. To provide Ukrainians with hope for a better future once the invasion has ended, UoPeople also is providing 1,000 scholarships for students from Ukraine, including those who have fled their country, so they can continue their education.
“We cannot thank the Oak Foundation enough for their generous support of UoPeople’s efforts to aid the people of Ukraine during this critical time,” said UoPeople President Shai Reshef. “The Ukrianian people are suffering greatly due to the Russian invasion, and many have lost hope that they will be able to continue their education. As an online institution, UoPeople is able to provide educational lifelines to thousands of Ukrainians providing them with hope for a better future.”
Oak Foundation commits its resources to address issues of global, social and environmental concern, particularly those that have a major impact on the lives of the disadvantaged. Through its grant-making, the foundation supports organizations to make the world a safer, fairer and more sustainable place to live. The foundation is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Oak Foundation grant follows other recent donations UoPeople has received in support of its Ukrainian initiative from SAP and other donors.
