UoPeople Providing 1,000 Scholarships to Turkish and Syrian Students Following Devastating Earthquake

Scholarships to Turkish and Syrian Students

To help the Turkish and Syrian people recover from the recent earthquake that seriously damaged or destroyed many of the universities in the region, University of the People (UoPeople) is providing 1,000 scholarships to students from the impacted area so they can continue their education online. UoPeople currently enrolls around 14,000 students from Turkey and Syria in its English and Arabic divisions.

“The massive earthquake destroyed parts of Turkey and Syria and killed tens of thousands of people,” said UoPeople President Shai Reshef. “Our university wants to provide the survivors with hope for a better future by providing them with educational opportunities to help the Turkish and Syrian people rebuild their lives.”

Founded in 2009, UoPeople is the first non-profit, tuition-free, American-accredited, online university dedicated to providing access to higher education globally to help qualified high school graduates overcome the financial, geographic, political, and personal constraints keeping them from university studies. The university currently enrolls more than 126,000 students from over 200 countries. UoPeople’s student body includes more than 16,500 refugees – including around 10,000 Syrian refugees.
