Tyronickah B. Believes Flexible Learning is a Blessing for Single Mothers Like Herself

Tyronickah B., Business Administration, United States

A 31-year-old Grenadian residing in New York City, Tyronickah B. is currently earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at University of the People. Her educational journey so far has been both challenging and rewarding. Growing up, she completed every level of education with great dedication and loved learning. This trend continued into secondary school, where she faced formidable peers who pushed her intellectually. “I was a part of one of the smartest individual classes in my school, and that continued to Secondary School. I was placed again with sharp minds that challenged me but also broke me mentally at times, causing me to struggle with panic attacks. Still, I completed my 5 years of secondary school at age 16 with 8 CXC passes and then moved to the USA, where I was placed back in high school due to my age and lack of money and status to attend college. I spent one year in High School in New York, starting in 10th Grade, taking and passing 9 regents, and being given my diploma in June with honors and a 3.9 GPA. Graduating High school again, at age 17,” she shares.

Growing up, she saw her family struggle with poverty. She also faced significant health challenges, which shaped her attitude and social circle. “I have very close friends. I believe that without the experiences of my childhood, I wouldn’t be the person I am or have the kind of friends and people around me I do today. I don’t have any complaints with my journey.”

Tyronickah first learned about UoPeople in 2016 from her close friend back in Grenada. Years later, in 2023, while searching for affordable college options to earn a bachelor’s degree, she rediscovered UoPeople. “I enrolled here because of my immediate and long-term goals. The affordability and flexibility make it easy for me to fit my studies into my current lifestyle.”

She transferred many previous college credits to UoPeople while she joined here. “I loved the seamless experience and would recommend transferring credits to anyone—in fact, I already recommended it to my sister and best friend.”

What she loves most about her studies at UoPeople is the flexibility it offers. As a single mother of a disabled child who is being homeschooled, Tyronickah needs a great amount of flexibility to balance her responsibilities.

In her near future, she dreams of opening a Mental Health Recreational Facility back home in Grenada. Her vision includes offering alternative and affordable methods for mental health management to patients looking for solutions.

Currently, she’s learning Korean at the Korean Education Center in New York. But beyond that, her time is largely spent with her daughter. They enjoy activities like watching TV, visiting museums, and going on little playdates together.

Tyronickah believes in embracing her life’s journey—with all the highs and lows. She is glad to be able to find time to sleep, eat, have fun, and show love and care for those around her—all while continuing her education at UoPeople. Stories like Tyronickah’s spark great joy in us and fill us with pride. We are happy to be supporting her dreams and wish her all the best for her future.
