Saeed N., Health Science, United States

Saeed N., now based in Michigan, United States, had to leave Yemen before completing his college education, uncertain whether he would ever have the opportunity to finish his degree. His journey took a positive turn when he discovered University of the People, where he found a flexible and accessible path to continue his studies while working. He is now earning his bachelor’s degree in Health Science at UoPeople.

With the opportunity to transfer his previously earned credits, Saeed was able to continue his education without starting over. The ability to study online and progress at his own pace allowed him to balance his academic goals with his professional responsibilities.

“Being able to transfer my previous credits allowed me to continue from where I left off,” Saeed says. “It made my educational journey feel meaningful and continuous rather than starting over.”

For Saeed, UoPeople’s accessibility was especially important because he needed an educational option that was not limited by location or financial barriers. He was drawn to the university’s tuition-free model and its mission of making higher education accessible to students around the world.

“I chose UoPeople because it offers a flexible and accessible way to earn a degree while balancing work and personal responsibilities,” he explains.

Saeed also values the university’s global learning environment. Studying alongside students and instructors from different countries has exposed him to diverse perspectives and enriched his learning experience. He appreciates that UoPeople’s courses are well organized, with weekly discussions and assignments that help students stay engaged and accountable.

“My favorite thing about studying at UoPeople is the flexibility and accessibility it provides,” he says. “Being able to study online while continuing to work has made it possible for me to pursue my degree without putting my life or career on hold. Balancing work and studies is not always easy, but the experience has strengthened my discipline, time management, critical thinking, and adaptability.”

His degree has also given him a strong foundation in health science, including knowledge of public health, healthcare systems, and evidence-based practice. He hopes to use this knowledge to pursue opportunities in healthcare and contribute more effectively to his professional field and community.

“Studying while working has helped me develop essential skills such as discipline, time management, critical thinking, and adaptability,” Saeed says. “These are skills that are especially important in healthcare, where responsibility and decision-making are critical.”

For Saeed, earning his degree represents more than an academic achievement. It is proof that an interrupted education does not have to mean the end of a person’s educational journey.

“I am deeply grateful to UoPeople for believing in accessible education and for giving students like me a second chance to achieve their academic dreams,” he says.

Today, Saeed hopes his journey will encourage others who have had their education interrupted by circumstances beyond their control. His experience demonstrates how determination, flexibility, and the right support can help learners continue moving forward and turn long-held academic goals into reality.

We are proud of Saeed’s perseverance and achievement and wish him continued success as he builds on his education and pursues his goals in healthcare.
