Singer-songwriter, Entrepreneur, and Working Mom: MBA Student, Monserrat Wears Many Hats
Monserrat L.,MBA,United States
Based in the United States, Monserrat has had several years of success in the American financial industry. She’s a leader in the field of diversity, equity, and inclusion as well as a singer-songwriter and business owner. Monserrat is also an MBA student at UoPeople.
Life didn’t always look this way for Monserrat. She reflects on her teenage years, experiencing homelessness, domestic violence, and discrimination as a woman of color. As a single working mom, she did her best to raise a son while struggling to put food on the table.
“In all my adversity, I have continued to persevere. Some of my major accomplishments today are performing on the Marie Osmond Show and Pet Co Park Stadium as a Singer/Songwriter, establishing Alpha Pi Sigma (a Latina Sorority at the University of San Diego where I studied music), and being a finalist in the World’s Citizens Artist Awards for my original song, Unidos Por Amor,” she tells us. “Life feels full and rewarding. I am continuing to work hard and not let my struggles go to waste.”
In 2020, Monserrat began looking for MBA programs that wouldn’t leave her drowning in debt. She discovered UoPeople and saw the opportunity to continue turning her ambition into action. She enrolled in the program and tells us she would recommend it to anyone. She appreciates the combination of affordability and flexibility which, she says, empowers global learners like herself to avoid debt and schedule restrictions.
Currently, Monserrat is juggling family, work, and her studies, but refuses to lose sight of her top priority: her son.
“I manage to pause whatever I am doing to put my son first even if it’s just to listen to him tell me a story or show me his drawings…I am working hard to buy my son a dream house,” she says with a bright smile.
UoPeople couldn’t be prouder of students like Monserrat. We are thrilled for her and look forward to seeing all her big dreams come true.
