For Eugenio Rodriguez B., earning a degree is an important step toward advancing his career and continuing to grow personally. A Dominican-American living on Long Island, New York, Eugenio is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration at the University of the People while managing a demanding full-time career and responsibilities beyond work.

Eugenio grew up in a family that valued discipline, hard work, and Christian faith. Both of his parents played an important role in his education and personal development. His father, a professional, taught him the importance of responsibility—values that continue to guide him today.

Before moving to the United States, Eugenio had already developed university-level skills in the Dominican Republic. Starting over in a new country, however, brought its own challenges. For him, moving to the United States was not simply about finding work; it was an opportunity to continue growing and build a meaningful career. Adapting to a new environment while establishing his life required patience, consistent effort, and faith.

Determined to continue his education, Eugenio began looking online for an accredited degree program.

“I found UoPeople while looking online for an accredited degree program that was genuinely affordable and flexible,” he says. “The tuition-free model and overall mission instantly appealed to me, because it allowed me to earn my degree without taking on heavy debt.”

Eugenio transferred 60 credits from Nassau Community College on Long Island, letting him build on his previous studies and move faster toward graduation. He describes the process as simple and quick and recommends it to other students who have completed coursework elsewhere.

Now having completed the majority of the credits required for his degree, Eugenio appreciates the opportunity to learn alongside students from around the world. Their different experiences and perspectives have encouraged him to reconsider his own assumptions and broaden his outlook.

“Hearing different viewpoints has helped me step back and realize my own way of looking at things isn’t the only one,” he says. “That perspective has been great for my personal growth and my leadership skills.”

His studies complement the responsibilities he already handles professionally. Eugenio works full-time in human resources for a multinational company, managing operations across multiple facilities. He also manages properties, adding to his already demanding schedule.

Balancing work, studies, and personal responsibilities requires careful planning. Eugenio relies on time management, weekly prioritization, and discipline to keep everything moving forward. While managing so many commitments can be challenging, he remains focused on completing his degree and using it to advance professionally.

Looking ahead, Eugenio hopes to move into corporate-level leadership roles where he can make a greater impact within his organization. He sees his Business Administration degree as an important step toward that goal, helping him build on his existing experience while continuing to develop as a professional.

Outside work and school, Eugenio enjoys playing acoustic guitar, tackling do-it-yourself projects around the house, and spending time with his pet bird, Chica.

For Eugenio, education is part of a broader commitment to growth. By combining his previous academic experience with the flexibility of UoPeople, he is continuing to invest in his future while meeting the demands of his life today. His story reflects how accessible higher education can help working professionals keep moving toward their goals, even while balancing multiple responsibilities.
