“UoPeople is a vital resource for anyone willing to succeed”: Adam Abdulrahman B., a Computer Science student
Adam Abdulrahman B., Computer Science, Sudan
At 46 years old, Adam Abdulrahman B. has never let circumstances define the limits of his ambition. Originally from Sudan, Adam grew up in a small village where opportunities were limited. However, his curiosity remained strong, and he stayed passionate about learning.
“I always dreamed of earning a college education,” he shares.
Adam graduated from high school in 2002, but financial hardship stood in the way of attending university. With limited family income, higher education was simply out of reach. Determined not to give up entirely, he pursued a vocational diploma and entered the workforce. However, despite years of dedication, he found his career growth stalled.
“I couldn’t advance because I didn’t have a bachelor’s degree,” he explains.
For years, Adam searched for a way back into education. That opportunity finally came in 2024—but under unimaginable circumstances.
When war broke out in Sudan, Adam’s life was upended. He was displaced to Port Sudan, while the rest of his family fled to Egypt. Separated from loved ones and struggling to survive, he faced daily uncertainty.
“I struggled to make ends meet. There was fear, exhaustion, and constant worry,” he says.
Amid this instability, Adam found something unexpected: a path forward.
“University of the People became my refuge—the only place that gave me hope during this difficult time.”
Adam enrolled in a bachelor’s degree in computer science, stepping into a field in which he had little prior experience. Despite the challenge, he committed himself fully to his studies.
“I didn’t disappoint. I am proud to have reached this prestigious field.”
Balancing life hasn’t been easy. As a father of two, Adam works during the day in a private company to support his children. His salary barely covers essential expenses, so he takes on additional work installing networks and security cameras whenever possible. At night, he is a student.
“I study at night to complete my assignments on time.”
Through discipline and determination, Adam has excelled academically, completing his coursework with distinction. For him, education is not just about personal success—it’s about transformation.
“I want to gain knowledge, achieve a respected position, and contribute to society.”
Adam speaks highly of his experience at UoPeople, highlighting its structure, academic rigor, and global learning environment.
“The university is a vital resource for anyone who wants to succeed. It offers high-quality education, supportive professors, and engaged peers who make discussions meaningful. I have already recommended UoPeople to friends and recent high school graduates because I want to encourage others to pursue accessible, quality education regardless of their circumstances.”
Outside of his degree, Adam continues to invest in his learning. In his free time, he studies through Coursera, where he has earned a professional certificate in cybersecurity and a certification in Python systems monitoring. He is currently preparing for an ISC2 certification and has the long-term goal of passing the CISSP exam.
Looking ahead, Adam plans to continue his journey with a master’s degree at UoPeople. His ambitions don’t stop there.
“I aspire to take on leadership roles—perhaps even becoming a dean one day.”
Despite the many challenges he has faced—financial hardship, displacement, and the responsibilities of supporting a family—Adam remains grounded in gratitude and purpose.
His story is a powerful reminder that education can be more than a goal; it is a lifeline. We are so impressed by Adam’s hard work and determination, and wish him all the best for his future.
