Scholarships for Syrian Refugees

[New York City, October 16, 2019] – University of the People is thrilled to announce grants to provide scholarships to refugee students from Syria and students in Burkina Faso.

The agreements represent another significant step toward the University’s mission of extending higher education access to the entire world. University of the People is best known as the Education Revolution. UoPeople is the world’s first non-profit ultra-low-cost accredited American online university and serves more than 20,000 students from over 200 countries.

“Our work with the German and U.S. government to award full scholarships to Syrian refugee students and students in Burkina Faso demonstrate our commitment to providing educational opportunity to those who have been excluded,” said University of the People President Shai Reshef. “These innovative collaborations should serve as a model to other institutions of higher learning.”

University of the People Collaboration with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH

University of the People is pleased to announce that the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit through the funding of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is awarding scholarships to Syrian refugee students.

Applicants must be Syrian born, have a high-school diploma or equivalent, and be able to demonstrate English proficiency. Recipients can pursue any of the University’s degree programs. In  order to qualify for the scholarships, applicants must currently be residing in Iraq, Lebanon, Turkey, or Jordan.

“University of the People is proud to collaborate with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit to provide scholarships for Syrian refugee students,” said President Reshef. “Our work together should serve as a global precedent to promote access to higher education for all refugee students.”

University of the People Collaboration with the U.S. Department of State

University of the People is pleased to announce a collaboration with the U.S. Department of State through the Embassy of the United States of America, Public Affairs Section in Burkina Faso to award full scholarships to students in Burkina Faso for UoPeople Associate Degree programs.

Those awarded this scholarship will have all assessment fees waived. Scholarship recipients will have a period of three years to complete their degree program of choice.
