Waleed A. Hassen

Waleed A. Hassen, MD, MBA, is Chair of the Department of Urology at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and Professor of Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. An internationally recognized urologic oncologist and robotic surgeon, he has built and led a comprehensive urology program serving patients across the Middle East.
Prior to joining the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Hassen served on the faculty of the James Buchanan Brady Urological Institute at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and was previously Director of Urologic Oncology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He completed his urology residency at Mount Sinai and fellowships in urologic oncology and minimally invasive and robotic surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He earned his MBA from Brandeis University.
Dr. Hassen has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and educational materials and lectures internationally. He serves as international faculty for the American Urological Association and has held leadership roles in regional and international guideline development. He currently chairs the NCCN Middle East and North Africa Panel for adaptation of prostate cancer guidelines.
His research interests focus on prostate and kidney cancer. His broader interests include healthcare innovation, artificial intelligence, quality improvement, medical education, and healthcare systems leadership.
