Sule Lamido University
About Sule Lamido University
Sule Lamido University (SLU) is a state-owned public university in Kafin Hausa, Jigawa State, north-western Nigeria. It was established by a bill signed into law on 13 May 2013, initially as Jigawa State University, and licensed by the National Universities Commission on 17 July 2013 as Nigeria’s 39th state-owned university and 129th university overall. In December 2014, the Jigawa State House of Assembly renamed the institution Sule Lamido University in honour of the state governor under whom it was established. Academic activities began in September 2014 with 15 programmes across three take-off faculties — Education, Humanities, and Natural and Applied Sciences — and the university has since grown to six faculties, adding Agriculture and Natural Resource Management, Computing and Information Technology, and Social and Management Sciences.
SLU is among the most affordable universities in Nigeria; the Jigawa State government subsidizes fees for state indigenes, who pay below ₦50,000 per year.
