About University Of Calabar
The University of Calabar (UNICAL) is a federal university in Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria. It began as a campus of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in the 1973/74 academic session, and was established by decree as a fully independent institution in April 1975, one of Nigeria’s “second-generation” federal universities. Its campus sits on 17 hectares between the Great Qua River and the Calabar River, and the university comprises 13 faculties, with a student population of roughly 40,000.
Like several other federal universities, UNICAL does not charge formal tuition; students instead pay administrative and service charges. UNICAL has also been designated a Centre of Excellence in Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Coding and Cyber Security.
Notable alumni include Chile Eboe-Osuji, former President of the International Criminal Court, and Ini Edo, a leading Nollywood actress.
