Ebonyi State University
About Ebonyi State University
Ebonyi State University (EBSU) is a state-owned university in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Nigeria, established in 1999-2000. Its origins trace to the Anambra State University of Science and Technology (ASUTECH), founded in 1980; following the creation of Ebonyi State in 1996, ASUTECH’s Abakaliki campus was upgraded, first to a college and then, in 1999/2000, to the independent Ebonyi State University. The university’s Faculty of Health Sciences dates back to 1991, when it operated as ESUT’s medical school. EBSU spans four campuses in Abakaliki — the Permanent Site, Presco, Ishieke, and CAS — and comprises 9 faculties, with a student population of roughly 27,000.
EBSU has no religious affiliation and draws students predominantly from Nigeria’s South-East and South-South regions.
