How to Confirm your Details?
Now that you are in the portal, it’s time to save your sport in our next class. To do so, you will need to complete a few additional steps inside the UoPeople portal.
Once inside the UoPeople portal, you will see a welcome message as we prepare your information.
Then, you will have the chance to review the information that you entered in the application form. Make sure all the details are correct in each section as they will be part of your official UoPeople documentation going forward.
In case you notice any incorrect or missing information, make sure to update it by clicking on “edit” on the left hand side of each section.
When your information in all sections is correct, scroll to the top of the page and click “Create my application!”. If you are unable to do so, you will see an error message at the top of the page, telling you which fields still need to be updated.
Once you have logged into the UoPeople portal and your application meets our requirements, you will be assigned a dedicated Admissions advisor to help you every step along the way to becoming a student.
In this step, we will choose the relevant admissions pathway for you.
The admission pathways at UoPeople include English proficiency and transferring credits. We require students to have a strong level of English and also provide them with the opportunity to transfer credits they may have.
If English is your primary native language or your previous education was in English you won’t see the first question about the English language.
However, if English is not your primary native language or your previous education was not in English, you will be asked to start your studies in our English Foundations course, English 0101. Doing this course will enable you to successfully complete your studies of your higher education in English. In this step, you have the option to choose to appeal this decision and, if successful, you will move straight to UoPeople Foundations courses.
Additionally, if you have completed college or university courses at other institutions, you may be able to transfer those credits to your degree program at the University of the People. In this step, you can let us know if you have any credits you want to transfer.
How to Appeal your English Decision?
If you have not yet paid your application fee, you will see a red banner at the top of the page. When you are ready to pay, simply click on the banner and you will be directed to the payment page. After selecting your preference, follow the instructions to complete your payment.
One of the main requirements to become a student at UoPeople is that you can prove you are proficient in English. For students who have graduated from a school where English is not the primary language, you will have the option to upload documents that show you are proficient in English. If your transcripts are in another language, you will also be asked to upload a translated version.
You will be notified when your transcripts have been reviewed by email, or you can check back in the UoPeople Portal.
If your English appeal documentation and proof does not suffice to pass the English requirement, you’ll have to take UoPeople’s English course. This is to further develop your English reading and writing skills as a strong base for your academic studies at UoPeople.
How to Transfer Credits?
If you chose to transfer credits from another institution, you will need to upload your supporting documentation. To do this, click on “Choose File” and select the relevant files on your computer. Click upload and you should be able to see the file name on your application.
When you have uploaded all your supporting documentation, be sure to carefully review your full application before clicking “Submit.”
Congratulations! Your transfer credit application has now been submitted and is being processed. You should get a response usually within two business days.
You can check the status of your application anytime by going back to your application. Once your transfer credit application has been submitted and reviewed, you will receive an email updating you with the exact courses that have been approved to transfer to UoPeople. Once approved, simply select the courses you wish to transfer and you will be able to pay the $17 evaluation fee for each. If you have not yet paid for admission fee, you will need to do so now.
Save Your Spot
Pay on Your Own or Apply for Scholarships
UoPeople is tuition-free, which means students are not charged anything for their educational instruction, course materials or annual enrollment. We work hard to ensure that no student is denied the ability to study with UoPeople due to financial reasons.
UoPeople does charge minimal assessment fees per course, which are paid as you go with no commitment, in order to remain sustainable.
UoPeople has several types of scholarships available for those who would otherwise not be able to afford it.
In this step, you have two options: you can choose to pay on your own the assessment fees, course-by-course as you go, and save your seat for the next term, or you can apply for financial aid.
If you choose to apply for financial aid, let us know how much you can afford to put towards your entire degree. This amount will not be charged at this point and will never be charged at once, only course by course as you go. So, for example, if you applied to a bachelor’s degree which require you to pass 40 courses, the total cost of the assessment fees in the degree will be $4,000, so if you can pay $2000, you will be asked to pay $2000/40 courses, hence $50 close to the end of each course. we do not ask for any financial information of you or your relatives and the entire process is based on self-evaluation and trust. Just tell us why you need financial help and we will do the rest.
Our financial aid team will review your request and within a few days we will let you know if you have been successful and received a scholarship. The time taken for your request to be processed will depend on how close to the deadline you are and the volume of requests.
Remember, UoPeople financial aid policy is based on first-come-first-serve basis, so the earlier you apply for a scholarship, the better!
Please note, once you have submitted your scholarship application, you will not be able to save your spot for the next term until our team has reviewed your application. You can always apply for a scholarship as a student, later on in your studies, in case you will discover later on that you need help. If you didn’t receive a scholarship, you can either choose to pay on your own (if you have found the resources to do so), or wait for the following term. If you didn’t receive a scholarship because of a lack of funds, you can wait for the following term and we will put you first in the next term scholarship process.
How to Save your Spot?
The final step for your application process is to save your spot for the next term.
Just sign the agreement and save your spot by writing your name digitally and click “submit”. Now your spot will be saved for foundations courses. That’s it! You did it!
Congratulations. You can now begin your studies at UoPeople. We are excited to see you in class!
