Jorge L., Computer Science, Panama

Based in Panama City, 24-year-old Jorge L. is on an exciting journey toward earning his bachelor’s degree in computer science at the University of the People. His path has been shaped by resilience, curiosity, and a love for learning.

Growing up in a warm and disciplined household, Jorge was taught the importance of faith, education, and values. Even when resources were limited, his family encouraged him to stay curious and make the most of every opportunity. From a young age, he was fascinated by technology, loved exploring nature, and developed a mindset that turned challenges into opportunities.

“Life has tested me in many ways—financially, physically, and academically. There were moments when I had to balance work, studies, and family responsibilities all at once. At times, opportunities seemed beyond reach, but I learned that perseverance, faith, and hard work can turn obstacles into stepping stones. Each challenge strengthened my resolve and deepened my gratitude for every accomplishment,” he shares.

Why did Jorge choose UoPeople to earn his bachelor’s degree? “I discovered UoPeople while searching for a high-quality, accessible education that could adapt to my unique circumstances. The university’s innovative model, global community, and commitment to inclusive education inspired me. I enrolled because UoPeople offered a path to personal and professional growth without sacrificing the responsibilities I already had.”

From the start, he connected with the university’s mission. “The supportive community and smooth credit transfer process made my transition simple. The flexibility offered at UoPeople allows me to balance my busy life while continuing my studies. For me, UoPeople is more than just a university—it’s a place where my goals feel within reach.”

What he enjoys most about his program is how practical and inspiring the courses are. Each class gives him tools he can apply to real-world situations, helping him prepare for a meaningful career in computer science. His dream is to become a respected professional in the field and use his knowledge to contribute to Panama’s growth while encouraging others to pursue education, no matter their circumstances.

Outside of his studies, Jorge enjoys hiking, sports, nature photography, and exploring new cultures. He also finds time for reading, writing, and spiritual reflection, which helps him recharge and stay balanced. On top of that, he manages multiple projects alongside school, relying on discipline and passion to keep everything moving forward.

For Jorge, education is more than just earning a degree—it’s about creating opportunities, uplifting communities, and shaping a brighter future. His story is a reminder that with determination and the right support, dreams are always possible.

We are truly proud of Jorge’s spirit to transform his life and uplift others on his way. We wish him all the best for everything he wants to accomplish.
