“Learning at UoPeople Is Experiencing Unity in Diversity,” Says Ntsiki M., Entrepreneur and Business Student
Ntsiki M., Business Administration, South Africa
Based in South Africa, Ntsiki M. is currently earning an Associate Degree in Business Administration at University of the People. Her journey has been far from easy—it’s been shaped by resilience, faith, and determination to create her own path.
She grew up in a small family, raised by a pastor and adopted within her extended family. Her grandmother, whom she considers her greatest blessing, raised her. “Despite challenges and even hurtful remarks from relatives, my grandmother poured love and discipline into raising me. She made sure I studied hard so that I could finish my matric, get into university, and one day become an independent woman,” Ntsiki shares.
Throughout her growing years, she faced numerous challenges, including major family disputes that affected her deeply. However, with time, Ntsiki has learned to see those hardships as lessons. “I’ve realized that many of my battles were more internal than external. And now, I see them as blessings rather than burdens.”
Her professional journey began early. At just 19, fresh out of high school, she asked her father to connect her with part-time work. That first job opened the door to the business world—and with it came income, independence, and the temptation to put education on hold. By her late twenties, however, she knew it was time to go back and formalize her knowledge. “I had gained enough work experience in business. Now, I needed a degree to match that experience. And that’s when I discovered UoPeople.”
How has her experience been at UoPeople so far? “What I love most about studying at UoPeople is the diversity. Learning alongside peers from around the world has been eye-opening. It’s unity in diversity. The flexibility, affordability, and peer-to-peer learning have made my studies truly enriching.”
Ntsiki is also an entrepreneur. She launched her own business in 2017, and when COVID-19 disrupted everything in 2020, she pivoted to social media education, creating content with an educational focus. “I want to see my business grow, and with the rise of AI, I know it will bring even greater opportunities. My goal is to continue building and expanding so that I can give back to my community in meaningful ways.”
Outside of work and study, Ntsiki devotes herself to religious worship, and singing is more than a hobby for her—it’s a calling. She uses her voice to heal and uplift others through devotional songs.
Today, Ntsiki balances client work, her online studies, and personal dreams. “It’s not always easy with limited resources,” she admits, “but I use what I have, and I know it’s just a matter of time and patience.” She’s close to finishing her degree at UoPeople and plans to start a family someday soon. For now, she remains focused on completing her studies, expanding her business, and inspiring others through her journey.
We are proud of Ntsiki’s journey and all she has accomplished so far, and we wish her the very best as she continues to grow, inspire, and pursue her dreams.
