Computer Science Student, Athumani Saidi Wants to Contribute Tech-Based Solutions in Education and Healthcare
Athumani Saidi F., Computer Science, Tanzania
Based out of Dodoma, Tanzania, Athumani Saidi F. Is earning a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at University of the People. He grew up in a rural area where access to quality education was quite limited. Despite these challenges, his parents instilled in him the importance of learning, which allowed him to complete his primary and secondary education in public schools.
“Financial hardship has been my biggest challenge. Paying for higher education and basic needs was difficult. Sometimes I had to pick part-time jobs while studying,” he shares.
Why did Athumani decide to enroll at UoPeople? “I discovered UoPeople through an online forum while searching for affordable universities. I was inspired by UoPeople’s mission to make higher education accessible to everyone, especially those with financial constraints. The university’s mission and values aligned perfectly with my belief system. I immediately applied.”
What Athumani appreciates most about his studies at UoPeople is the flexibility that allows him to balance work and education. “The diverse international community offers enriching discussions that broaden my perspective. The quality of education is impressive, especially given the university’s affordability. After graduation, I plan to work in software development and contribute tech-based solutions in education and healthcare within my community. Eventually, I hope to start my own tech company.”
When he’s not working or studying, Athumani enjoys reading, watching documentaries, and volunteering in local youth mentorship programs. He also likes to spend quality time with his wife and younger siblings. Balancing work, studies, and family responsibilities can be tough, but he manages his time carefully and stays disciplined with his schedule. “The online nature of UoPeople has been a lifesaver in maintaining this balance.”
Athumani’s eyes are set on his big goals, and we are super stoked for him. We wish him all the best for his future.
