Our Scholarships

UoPeople currently offers a number of options to assist students in need of financial aid. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with the scholarships available and the financial aid process prior to selecting the scholarship to which you would like to apply.

You may only apply for one scholarship at a time.

In order to maximize the number of students that will be able to study, and as a part of our mission to open access to higher education for as many people as possible, the UoPeople Scholarship Committee may offer you a different scholarship than the one to which you have applied. In such a case, you will be provided with the alternate scholarship information prior to indicating your acceptance.

University of the People is dedicated to opening access to higher education around the world for all qualified individuals and strives to provide equal educational access to all. Its financial aid process is nonetheless competitive and we cannot guarantee that you will be awarded financial aid. Your application will be assessed by the Scholarship Committee which will consider the information contained in your application form. The Scholarship Committee will consider information such as, your reasons for applying for financial aid, your financial situation and employment details, your previous education, as well as your personal statement, which may include information such as your achievements, volunteer work, community service, and other special circumstances.*

Moreover, UoPeople scholarships are only available to help fund students studying towards an associate’s degree, while some exceptions may apply. If you chose to enroll in a bachelor’s degree program, we encourage you to switch to an associate’s degree program first before continuing on to complete a bachelor’s degree program.**

As part of the consideration of your application for a scholarship, your personal information may be provided to the scholarship fund sponsor. This information may include your academic transcripts, personal statements and further details contained in your application for admission to the University, as well as any information contained in your scholarship application. Information that is shared will be for the sole purpose of administering the scholarship fund.

Please note that students are expected to contribute towards their exam processing fees to the best of their capabilities. Students who are required to repeat courses will incur an additional Exam Processing Fee for each additional course taken and may not have sufficient funds remaining in your scholarship for completion of their degree.

University of the People is committed to its mission of democratizing education worldwide and believes that its students should take an active role in their education. As such, we encourage students to commit to their education both academically and financially, asking each student to pledge whatever amount they are able to towards their examination processing fees.

*Please note that UoPeople does not award scholarships to admitted applicants or students who have previously earned a degree from a post-secondary institution.

**An associate’s degree program is a 60-credit program that takes approximately two years of full-time study to complete. Students who wish to enroll in the 120-credit bachelor’s degree program are encouraged to first earn an associate’s degree to improve academic success and employment potential, after which they will only be required to earn the remaining number of credits towards a bachelor’s degree.
