Romal S., a 24-year-old from Kapisa Province, Afghanistan, is a dedicated Computer Science student at University of the People. His journey reflects resilience, passion, and an unshakable belief in the power of education.

Born into an open-minded and supportive family, Romal developed a love for computers and reading at an early age. He completed his high school studies at Sayed Tanasori High School, where his curiosity and drive for personal growth flourished. Alongside academics, he practiced martial arts, which taught him discipline and focus—qualities that continue to shape his life today.

However, Romal’s path was not without obstacles. “After the political changes in Afghanistan in late 2020, I faced a major disruption in my education. Due to the difficult situation, I was unable to continue my studies in the traditional education system. I had nearly lost hope. Fortunately, in 2022, a former high school classmate introduced me to UoPeople. When I discovered this opportunity, it brought a new light into my life,” he shares.

Through UoPeople’s scholarship program, Romal was able to begin his Computer Science degree. “Studying at UoPeople has been a truly empowering experience. The flexibility, the quality of education, and a supportive community of peers and mentors make it a perfect platform for students like me who face challenges in accessing traditional universities.”

Romal is determined to become a professional software developer, with the goal of creating impactful and practical programs that benefit his community and highlight Afghan talent on a global stage.

Outside of his studies, Romal devotes time to strengthening his programming skills, reading, and continuing his martial arts training. With a carefully balanced daily routine, he remains focused, disciplined, and motivated to achieve his goals.

Romal’s journey is one of resilience and hope. By sharing his story, he hopes to inspire other Afghan youth facing similar challenges, showing them that with determination and the right opportunities, education remains within reach.

We are confident that with his dedication, he will go on to achieve great success and make a meaningful impact in his community and beyond. We are proud of him and wish him all the best for his future.
