Guy Plans to Use Education to Help His Community Thrive

Guy B., Business Administration, Cameroon

Guy B., Business Administration, Cameroon

Guy B. spent his childhood traveling between two very different worlds. Because of his parents’ work, he and his three siblings grew up both in Cameroon, a country in West Africa, and the Bordeaux region of France.

His mother was a lawyer and his father was a business owner and entrepreneur, so education was a priority for his family. When he turned twenty, he enrolled in college and started earning his degree. Unfortunately, both of his parents passed away soon after and he dropped out.

It would be another 20 years before he returned to school to complete his degree. When he did, he enrolled at UoPeople.

“I chose UoPeople because I found out that it was indeed possible to go the extra mile and finish the race,“ Guy says. “The collaborative approach taken by UoPeople through peer assessment, coupled with top-notch content and quality staff – has made my journey so far so good.”

Currently, Guy is studying to earn his B.A. in business administration to support his volunteer efforts with Actions for Development and Empowerment, an organization working to expand access to healthcare to people living in Cameroon. He’s also started his own community outreach organization and volunteers with his local government as a certified community health agent. On top of all this, he is married and raising two children. It’s a busy life, but UoPeople’s unique course structure lets him complete assignments and exams while balancing his many responsibilities.

Guy has set ambitious goals for life after graduation. He plans to continue his journey with UoPeople by earning his M.B.A. This will allow him to expand the scope of his organization to focus on gender-based violence and policy proposals on citizenship and healthcare access. He also wants to start his own consulting firm and teach the next generation of advocates.

It’s a busy and ambitious road ahead, but with the tools and education he’s earned at UoPeople, we expect to hear stories about Guy’s success.
