Gersom L., Computer Science, United States

Gersom L. was born in Havana, Cuba, and currently lives in Miami, where he works as an aviation technician. His journey has been shaped by major life transitions, including his decision to seek refuge in the United States — a move that opened the door to new opportunities, personal growth, and long-term goals.

While Gersom is proud of his accomplishments in aviation, he is eager to transition into cybersecurity and technology. “These fields inspire me with their potential for innovation and impact,” he says. His professional experiences have strengthened his resilience and adaptability, qualities he brings to every challenge as he works toward building a better future.

Why did he choose to earn his associate degree in computer science at UoPeople? “Affordability and accessibility were key factors in my decision to enroll at UoPeople. Traditional higher education can be a significant financial burden, and UoPeople’s tuition-free model makes it possible for individuals from diverse backgrounds to pursue their academic goals without incurring massive debt,” he explains. For Gersom, this flexibility allowed him to focus fully on learning and career development.

Gersom especially appreciates UoPeople’s emphasis on practical, career-relevant knowledge. “I love UoPeople’s focus on delivering essential knowledge and skills directly relevant to my field of study. The curriculum is designed to be practical and efficient, ensuring that I’m learning what I need to succeed in my career,” he notes. At the same time, he acknowledges that his prior experience sometimes places him ahead of the curve.

Earning a degree from UoPeople represents more than an academic milestone for Gersom. “Beyond the tangible benefits, it provides a sense of accomplishment and validation. It’s a testament to my dedication and perseverance, qualities that will serve me well in all aspects of my life,” he reflects. He believes that his education will open new professional doors and provide the foundation needed to successfully transition into the technology and cybersecurity sector.

With his eyes set on growth and meaningful impact, Gersom remains focused on adaptability, learning, and using education as a tool to shape a stronger future. As a university, we are proud to support Gersom on his remarkable journey and wish him all the best.
