SAP Providing 50 Scholarships for Ukrainian Refugees at UoPeople

Ukraine

PASADENA, CA (November 22, 2022)SAP is providing 50 scholarships for young Ukrainian adults whose studies have been upended by the Russian invasion. Through this funding, Ukrainian refugee students can attend University of the People (UoPeople), an online American university, for free and from anywhere in the world. SAP, the market leader in enterprise application software, earlier this year funded 100 scholarships at UoPeople for refugees and displaced youth from around the globe.

“Our partnership with University of the People is tied into SAP’s strategy of investing in innovative education models to enable pathways to employment and entrepreneurship for youth in need,” says Alexandra van der Ploeg, Global Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at SAP. “Learning is instrumental to future opportunities, especially during times of uncertainty. With supporting these scholarships, SAP is creating equitable access to education for the next generation of leaders.”

This year, SAP launched the “Opportunity for All” initiative and challenged its more than 110,000 employees worldwide to complete 2.5 million internal learning hours. As part of the initiative, SAP sponsored 50 scholarships for Ukrainian youth aged 18-30 who wish to pursue bachelor’s degrees in computer science or business administration at UoPeople.

SAP and UoPeople recognize the positive ripple effect when all people, especially from under-resourced communities such as refugees, have access to higher education. “Education not only promotes innovation and economic growth, it also helps students attain competitive job opportunities ultimately leading to poverty alleviation, higher income potential, and stable living environments for themselves and their families for future generations,” said UoPeople President Shai Reshef.

In addition to its support of refugee students, SAP is providing educational and career guidance to all of UoPeople’s students and graduates, including mentorships by SAP employees.

UoPeople is the first nonprofit, tuition-free, American, accredited online university dedicated to providing access to higher education globally. Designed to open access to higher education globally, the university helps qualified high school graduates overcome the financial, geographic, political, and personal constraints keeping them from college studies through fully virtual learning. UoPeople enrolls more than 126,000 students from 200 countries worldwide, including 16,500 refugees – more than any other university in the world. Currently, over 500 Ukrainian students are studying at the online university.

Interested students who meet the scholarship criteria of being a Ukrainian refugee or displaced person aged 18-30 can apply online. For more information or to apply, visit the scholarship site on University of the People’s website.
