Stephen O. joined UoPeople in 2021 to begin earning his bachelor’s in Business Administration after an extensive web search for an online school that was affordable, accredited and allowed him a unique level of flexibility. Stephen realized that an online degree could provide him with multiple benefits, like more job opportunities and a higher salary. “It’s a tough world requiring tough people. You need a degree from a university to land job offers.”

Currently, Stephen leads a busy life filled with job and family responsibilities. University of the People is exactly what he was searching for. Admittedly, Stephen shared with us that juggling school, work, and family duties can be quite challenging–especially when it’s a new experience. “I enjoy University of the People because it gives me easy access to a diverse global peer network. I see my business administration program laying a solid foundation for my future. I already have a part-time job in finance and the degree will provide me with more opportunities,” he explains.

How has UoPeople given him hope for a better future? “It has learning pathways that will help me achieve my goal and a successful future. UoPeople’s flexible and adaptable systems, open communication, and collaborations with other prestigious universities are crucial to help students reach their goals,” he says.

Stephen acknowledges that sometimes maintaining work, life and study balance can be difficult. “I struggle at times, but I don’t let it overwhelm me. When studying online, it’s important to stay organized. I divide my time evenly between work and family. Sometimes it’s a difficult balancing act.”

So, how does Stephen make it work? “The key is to plan ahead, keep track of your progress, and be prepared to adjust your schedule when things don’t move as quickly as you would like them to,” he advises.

After finishing his business degree at UoPeople, Stephen plans to become an inspector and risk assessor. He wants to help businesses maintain and comply with current codes, rules, and regulations. “I would also like to be able to help business startups that may need some special expertise in order to comply with regulations and standards,” he says.

Stephen’s ultimate dream is to be part of the management team at a large company, making a difference by implementing software solutions, including web applications, databases, and other enterprise systems. “I have experience working in budgeting and scheduling systems for businesses, as well as in human resources and management systems. I plan to take what I’ve learned from my experiences and apply it to managing projects and businesses in a similar capacity,” he says with enthusiasm. We are very impressed by his determination and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
