Computer Science Student, Samet D. Aspires to Build a Career in Cybersecurity

Born in Kayseri, Turkey, Samet D.’s childhood was spent in an average working-class family, but he received the best education his parents could afford. “My elementary and middle school years were quite regular and mostly trouble-free. However, when I reached the last year of middle school, my interest in foreign languages and computers began to grow steadily. Especially with the widespread use of the internet, my curiosity grew quite substantially,” he shares. 

During high school years, his passion for programming led him to participate in various educational programs and seminars. “I began to learn basic computer programming languages and started working on projects.” 

Throughout his educational journey, Samet put in significant effort to enhance his skills in computer science. “I encountered some challenges along the way but managed to overcome each obstacle with determination and hard work,” he says. 

At University of the People, he is earning a bachelor’s degree in computer science and is thankful for the support he receives from our staff. “I never thought an American college degree was a possibility for me. I take great pride in being a UoPeople learner. This educational opportunity is a significant achievement for me and motivates me to continue improving myself every day. I hope I make the most of this chance. My degree provides me with theoretical knowledge and practical opportunities to work on different projects. I have a lot of respect for the university as it offers debt-free education with great flexibility. My instructors are quite experienced and qualified. I am learning with peers from across the world, which is such a remarkable experience. To be candid, there is nothing I dislike about UoPeople,” Samet adds with a broad smile on his face. 

He never forgets to count his blessings; the moral support he receives from his family and close friends keeps him going. “Their love boosts my self-confidence and reinforces my determination to achieve my goals,” he shares. 

After earning his degree, he plans to become a cybersecurity expert. “I aspire to acquire in-depth knowledge in computer science and cybersecurity and work on various projects in the field. The education I am receiving at UoPeople marks the beginning of my journey toward a career in cybersecurity. Armed with my tech skills, I am determined to solve problems of the business world” he explains.
