Hiren R., Computer Science, India

Meet Hiren R., he was born in India into challenging circumstances, navigating poverty and illness from a very young age.

“I was fortunate to have the support of my family that helped me in dealing with my health challenges,” he says. “Asthma made it difficult for me to engage in outdoor activities, and I often found myself spending most of my time in the hospital. However, that didn’t stop me from dreaming big dreams.”

The willpower and perseverance Hiren developed during this difficult time have made him the student he is today.

“While many people study mainly for job security, I feel education is empowering beyond financial gains. Access to high-quality international education is a privilege and studying at University of the People makes me feel fulfilled. Now I know I can achieve anything I set my mind to,” he shares.

Since his early childhood, he has been fascinated by technology. As he grew up, he began pursuing a career in computers, eventually landing a job in the IT industry. This has allowed him to pursue his passions while supporting his family and making a difference in people’s lives. To take his career even further, he joined University of the People and is now working toward a Bachelor’s in Computer Science.

What does Hiren think about UoPeople so far? “My experience at UoPeople has been nothing short of exceptional. The online learning platform is user-friendly, and the instructors are knowledgeable and supportive,” Hiren says. “Learning through an online program, I have still been able to form meaningful connections with my peers from diverse backgrounds and cultures. The university’s emphasis on community engagement and volunteerism has also allowed me to make a positive impact on society while pursuing my education.”

Where is Hiren now? He is currently studying at UoPeople full time while working to support his family. Balancing all these responsibilities is an ongoing challenge, but when he remembers his purpose, he finds a way to make it happen.

“When I think of the larger picture and my future, I find the strength to approach tasks more creatively and with greater innovation. I am currently honing my skills to be a part of a global team that is pushing the boundaries in the field of computer science,” he says.

At UoPeople, Hiren is clearly investing his time in something he truly loves, and we are quite excited to see him realize his dreams.
