Originally from Ukraine and shaped by the realities of war, Hanna R. is currently pursuing her MBA at University of the People while rebuilding her life and career in the United States. Her journey is defined by resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to moving forward.

“Like millions of Ukrainians, I have experienced the disruption, instability, and emotional strain caused by the war. The constant concern for my family and country, combined with the need to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances, has become a part of my daily reality. Yet even during this difficult time, I made a conscious decision not to pause my growth. I chose to continue learning and moving forward,” she shares.

Before the war, Hanna built a successful career in the international hospitality industry, working as a spa manager on cruise ships. Her years at sea provided her with extensive global experience and helped her develop strong leadership, discipline, and team management skills. Working in a fast-paced, multicultural environment also taught her how to perform under pressure and deliver excellence in service and operations.

When the war began, education became a source of stability and direction. Hanna enrolled at UoPeople, drawn by its mission to make higher education accessible regardless of financial or geographic barriers.

“Education became my anchor,” she says. “UoPeople allowed me to continue growing, even in uncertain times.”

Today, Hanna owns a salon cum beauty studio in the United States. As an entrepreneur, she applies what she learns in her MBA program directly to her business. Courses in management, leadership, business strategy, and American business law help her make informed decisions and manage her company more effectively.

“What I learn in class, I apply immediately in real life,” Hanna explains. “It helps me grow as a business owner and a leader.”

The flexibility of UoPeople’s online learning model has been essential to her success. Managing a business requires long hours and constant attention, but the ability to study on her own schedule allows her to balance both responsibilities.

“The online format is ideal for my lifestyle,” she says. “It allows me to work, run my business, and continue my education at the same time.”

Hanna also values the global learning environment at UoPeople. Studying alongside students and instructors from around the world has expanded her perspective and strengthened her confidence as a professional. At the same time, it has helped her improve her English language skills—an important step in advancing her career.

One of the aspects she appreciates most is the relevance and quality of the curriculum at UoPeople.

“The knowledge is modern, practical, and up to date. It makes learning meaningful and directly applicable.”

Looking ahead, Hanna plans to continue developing her business while growing as a leader and professional. While she remains open to opportunities in the corporate world, her primary goal is to strengthen and expand her own company.

Her journey is a powerful example of how education can create opportunity even in the face of adversity.

“UoPeople has given me knowledge, opportunity, and hope for the future,” she says.

Through resilience, determination, and a commitment to learning, Hanna continues to transform challenges into progress—proving that even in the most difficult circumstances, it is possible to build a path toward success.

We are proud to support learners like Hanna and are inspired by her growth. We wish her continued success in all she aspires to achieve.
