BROOKVILLE, NY and PASADENA, CA – Feb. 23, 2021Long Island University (LIU) and University of the People (UoPeople) announced its agreement to create opportunities for its students to access in-demand, world-class undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

As a fully online, tuition-free university, UoPeople offers its students a select few degree programs. UoPeople recognizes limitations presented to students who wish to pursue alternate career fields, especially those which require on-the-ground training, including in-person residencies or fellowships. This partnership with LIU ensures that UoPeople students can pursue their studies in any field they wish, without such limitations.

“At UoPeople, ensuring our students have access to the most in-demand degree programs has always been our top priority, even if we cannot offer these programs ourselves,” said UoPeople President Shai Reshef. “COVID-19 has undeniably altered our world and our priorities. While the appreciation for online education is growing, we recognize that some opportunities, such as healthcare, require on-the-ground training. We are excited to work with Long Island University to provide students with the flexibility and opportunity needed to pursue their chosen fields, and to continue to address the demands of the global workforce.”

UoPeople students who successfully complete an associate degree in any of its undergraduate programs will be eligible to apply for admission to LIU’s bachelor’s degree programs. Additionally, UoPeople bachelor’s degree graduates can continue their graduate studies at LIU.

“LIU is committed to providing deserving students the opportunity to take the next step in their academic journey, no matter what that step is,” said Long Island University President Kimberly R. Cline. “We are so proud to work alongside University of the People to provide further equity in education. We admire UoPeople’s commitment to its diverse student body and we are ready to aid in creating new opportunities for both of our students.”

Both institutions will collaborate to enable scholarships to ensure that financial obstacles do not prevent qualified students from taking advantage of this opportunity.
