Health Science Student, Suliman Aspires to Own a Pharmacy Someday

a male health science bachelor's student at UoPeople

Suliman A., Health Science, Yemen

Suliman A. was born in a small city in Yemen, where life was simple yet challenging. His father worked hard as a farmer while his mother dedicated herself to raising the family. He imbibed his father’s stories about the significance of education and how it could open doors to countless opportunities.

From an early age, he was captivated by science. Hours would fly by as he immersed himself in scientific books and documentaries. He dreamed of becoming a doctor, but over time, he discovered an inclination towards pharmacy. “I realized that pharmacists play a vital role in health care, and that I can contribute to improving people’s lives by providing medicines and medical advice,” he shares.

After finishing high school, he enrolled in the Faculty of Pharmacy at a well-respected university in his hometown. “School years were challenging, but I didn’t give up. I worked hard and was able to graduate with good grades.”

He found a decent job at a local pharmacy. “I encountered patients with a wide array of health issues and had to navigate the complexities of advising them on their medications.  I learned to communicate effectively and build trusting relationships with patients. I got upskilled by participating in specialized training courses and scientific conferences to expand my knowledge about the latest developments in pharmacy. This helped me get promoted to a pharmacy manager. I aspire to own a pharmacy one day and be part of a health community that supports health awareness and promotes quality care.”

Why did Suliman choose to earn a bachelor’s degree in health science at UoPeople? “I chose to study at UoPeople for several compelling reasons. First and foremost, UoPeople’s mission to provide accessible, high-quality education aligns with my belief in the transformative power of learning. The university’s innovative online model allows students from diverse backgrounds and locations to pursue their academic goals without the financial burden often associated with traditional institutions. I love the emphasis on a peer-to-peer learning environment that fosters collaboration and networking among students worldwide. I get to engage with different cultures and viewpoints as a UoPeople learner. The flexibility of online courses also enables me to balance my studies with personal and professional commitments, making it an ideal choice for my lifestyle.”

Suliman firmly believes that every experience—good or bad—teaches valuable lessons that foster personal growth. He is working hard and sees his degree as a stepping stone toward personal and professional growth. We are excited to see the many opportunities he will be able to chase after finishing his education with us, and we hope for a bright future for him.
