Providing Proof of English Proficiency

If your native language is not English, or you did not earn a degree from an appropriately accredited institution where English is the principle language of instruction, you must submit one of the following qualifications to meet our English proficiency requirement:


(A) A high school diploma completed at a recognized high school where the medium of instruction is English (for undergraduate applicants only); OR


(B)  A transcript indicating completion of at least 30 semester hours of credit with an average grade of “C” (2.0) or higher at an accredited** college or university where the language of instruction was English. A “B” (3.0) or higher is required for master’s degree; or


(C) One of the qualifications in the table below

Please note that UoPeople accepts the Academic IELTS qualification.


**An institution must be accredited by an agency recognized by the United States Secretary of Education and/or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or an accepted foreign equivalent that is listed in the International Handbook of Universities where the language of instruction was English.


If you are not able to provide one of the above English proficiency qualifications, you may be considered for admission to UoPeople’s English Composition 1 course. In this case, you will be required to successfully complete this course before continuing to study in the UoPeople Foundations Courses.
