Professor H.V. Jagadish

Professor H.V. Jagadish is a computer scientist in the field of database systems research. Currently, he serves as the Bernard A. Galler Collegiate Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and a Director of the Michigan Institute for Data Science at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.
Prior to joining the Michigan faculty, he spent over a decade at AT&T Bell Laboratories as a research scientist where he would eventually become head of the Database division. He has also served as a Professor at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and as the Shaw Visiting Professor at the National University of Singapore. He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and of the Association for Computing Machinery. He served as a trustee of the VLDB Endowment 2004-2010. He was the founding editor of the Proceedings of the VLDB Endowment (PVLDB) in 2008-2014. He served on the Board of the Computing Research Association, 2009-2018.
Professor Jagadish earned his Bachelor’s degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and a doctorate in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in 1985.
