Carla James-Jackson
Senior Director, Academic & Student Services Roanoke Higher Education Center (RHEC)
Carla James-Jackson, PhD, is a leader in the academic library community. As Senior Director of Academic & Student Services at the Roanoke Higher Education Center (RHEC) in Roanoke, VA, she oversees the RHEC library, Information Technology, Educational Testing Center, and outreach activities. She started her career with RHEC in 2001 as Director of Library Services, and continues to utilize her strong library management expertise in the areas of administration, budget preparation, strategic planning and personnel development. With involvement in all types of libraries, James-Jackson has substantial experience with library instruction and is trained in instructional design.
James-Jackson serves as the co-chair of the Library Instruction Round Table and is a member of the American Library Association (ALA) and Beta Phi Mu, the International Honor Society for Library and Information Studies. She is a charter member and current membership chairman of the Blue Ridge Virginia Chapter of the Computer Science Teachers Association, and is a past chapter president of Beta Chi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
She completed her PhD in Instructional Design & Technology from Old Dominion University. Her dissertation was entitled: Flipping the Library One Shot: Applying the Flipped Classroom Approach to Library Instruction.
A native of Clinton, IA, James-Jackson is married and has five step-children.
