About Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University
Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), formerly Anambra State University (ANSU), is a state-owned university in Anambra State, Nigeria, established in 2000 by Anambra State Law No. 13, inheriting the assets and liabilities of the former Ekwenugo Okeke Polytechnic and College of Agriculture. In 2014 it was renamed in honour of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, the «Ikemba Nnewi,» who led the breakaway state of Biafra during the Nigerian Civil War. COOU operates a three-campus structure: Igbariam (Arts, Law, Management, and Agriculture), Uli (Engineering, Physical Sciences, and Natural Sciences), and Awka/Amaku (College of Medicine and Teaching Hospital). The university comprises 15 faculties and a full postgraduate school, with an alumni population of more than 50,000 graduates.
The university’s curriculum meets NUC standards while emphasizing Igbo cultural identity, entrepreneurship, ICT, and research-focused learning.
