As UoPeople’s 15th anniversary comes to a close this summer, it is an excellent opportunity for us to reflect on our successes over the past academic year as we begin planning for our bright future. Here are just a few of the major highlights:
UoPeople’s enrollment grew to more than 137,000 students from over 200 countries. This record-breaking number includes more than 24,000 students studying in our Arabic programs, more than 16,500 refugees, and more than 3,000 Afghan women studying online from the safety of their homes. I was extremely honored to receive the Yidan Prize for Education Development—the world’s highest education accolade. The award recognizes UoPeople’s mission to open the gates of higher education to all qualified students globally. To expand access to affordable college education for Arabic-speaking students, UoPeople launched the first online MBA degree taught completely in Arabic. New Dean of Business Administration Dr. John A. Quelch was appointed as our new Dean of Business Administration. Quelch is the Charles Edward Wilson Professor of Business Administration Emeritus at Harvard Business School and serves as the Executive Vice Chancellor of Duke Kunshan University in China. An independent study conducted by Tripp Umbach, the nation’s leading authority on the economic impact of higher education, showed that the ROI for a bachelor’s degree at UoPeople is 30 times higher than the average U.S. bachelor’s degree.
We celebrated UoPeople’s 15th anniversary with a wonderful gala in New York City. More than 200 University donors, board members, volunteers, staff, students, and graduates attended the event which raised $1.2 million for scholarships and showcased the university to new supporters.
Virtual Graduation Ceremony
In honor of our 15th anniversary, UoPeople is creating a personalized online commencement video for each of our more than 14,000 graduates since 2004. We are extremely proud to have provided a better future for so many people around the globe. UoPeople’s tremendous success since its founding is a testament to the university’s unwavering commitment to providing a world-class education accessible to all and demonstrates that UoPeople is not just educating students; we are enriching lives, creating opportunities, and changing the world. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you for supporting us throughout this amazing journey. Your dedication has been instrumental in our achievements. As we embark on the next chapter, we are energized by the possibilities ahead. Together, we will continue to innovate, advocate, and empower students globally.
