Modibbo Adama University Yola
About Modibbo Adama University Yola
Modibbo Adama University, Yola (MAU), in Girei, Adamawa State, north-eastern Nigeria, was founded in 1981 as the Federal University of Technology, Yola, one of seven federal universities of technology established that year alongside Abeokuta, Akure, Bauchi, Makurdi, Minna, and Owerri. It admitted its first 214 students in the 1982/83 session. In 1984, the university was merged with the University of Maiduguri and became the Modibbo Adama Campus, before regaining full autonomy under its original name on 1 January 1988. On 1 October 2011, President Goodluck Jonathan approved renaming it Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola, in honour of Modibbo Adama Ibn Hassan (1809-1847), a scholar and founder of the Fombina Kingdom (present-day Adamawa Emirate) and a disciple of Sheikh Usman Ibn Fodio of the Sokoto Caliphate. MAU operates through six schools: Agriculture and Agricultural Technology, Engineering and Engineering Technology, Environmental Sciences, Management and Information Technology, Pure and Applied Sciences, and Technology and Science Education.
President Muhammadu Buhari assented to a further establishment bill for the university on 6 January 2021.
