Federal University Of Petroleum Resources Effurun

The Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE) is a federal university in Ugbomro, Uvwie Local Government Area, Delta State, Nigeria, and Africa’s first petroleum university (sixth in the world). It was approved by the Federal Executive Council on 14 March 2007 and admitted its first undergraduates in 2008. FUPRE initially shared facilities with the neighbouring Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun, before moving to its permanent campus at Ugbomro in 2010. The university offers programmes across two colleges — Science and Technology — and twelve departments, including Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Environmental Management and Technology, Computer Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Petroleum Engineering. Unlike a typical federal university, FUPRE offers no programmes in Education, Arts, or Law, focusing exclusively on science and technology.

FUPRE’s motto is „Excellence and Relevance.“ Its Chancellor is His Royal Majesty Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remo Land.
